Background of the Study
Community radio is a unique form of media that is locally operated and serves the interests of the community. In Nigeria, community radio has played a pivotal role in raising awareness about various social issues, including health-related matters. Potiskum, located in Yobe State, has faced numerous health challenges, including communicable diseases, maternal health concerns, and limited access to healthcare services. Community radio stations in the region have become vital tools for communicating health messages to the population, disseminating information about preventive measures, and promoting healthy behaviors. This study will investigate the role of community radio in enhancing public health awareness in Potiskum, examining how radio programming influences community health practices and the overall health status of residents.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While community radio is widely acknowledged for its potential in promoting public health awareness, its specific impact in Potiskum LGA has not been thoroughly researched.
